What We Are About

Parkside Discovery Day Camp is an adventure you won’t want your kids to miss out on!  As a summer program our mission is to make sure your kids have a day full of fun, excited learning while being safe. Your child will grow and learn this summer by discovering new things and making new friends. We offer many important things for your kids including:

• Breakfast, Lunch, and Afternoon Snack
• Daily Field Trips
• Themed Weeks and Activities
• Park Explorations: Bidwell is at our doorstep, each day we will go on a park exploration, this includes nature walks, Caper Acres, Hooker Oak, Nature Center and Wildwood Park. On Mondays we will have a picnic lunch in Bidwell as well.
• Swimming Tuesdays at the local pool.
• Movie Wednesday where we go to the movie theaters for Movie Clubhouse.
• Thursdays we will have different Field Trips every week to fit the weekly theme.
• Wet’n’Wild Friday’s is where we allow your children to cool off with fun water games.

We design our themes for the summer program to be a great learning experience for your kids as well as exciting and fun filled.  Here are the 2014 summer themes:

Wild, Wild West (June 9- June 13)

A fascinating glimpse of frontier life in the Old West this week!  Kids will gain a pioneer spirit  through creating salt dough maps, square dancing, panning for gold; Field trip to Almond Country Farm riding stable.

Art Expo (June 16-  June 20)

Come and show your creative side!  The kids will be expressing themselves through self portraits, sand art, water colors, collages, sculptures, mosaics; Field trip to Glazed Creations.

Mad Science (June 23 – June 27)

Let’s be mad scientists!  All activities are hands on, children will conduct experiments, build science inventions while being introduced to science concepts; Field trip to the Chico Science Museum.

Stars and Stripes (June 30 – July 3)

A week of patriotic fun with explosions of red, white, and blue!  Inspiring games and stories!  Field Trip to Durham Park for a “bang up” barbeque!

Flashback to the 50’s (July 7 July 11)

We will “live and breath” the 50’s by emerging in the music, dances, slang, and clothes of that era. The week’s climax is a “Sock Hop”; Field trip to Cal Skate.

Everyday Heroes (July 14- July 18)

These heroes are even better than caped crusaders! The kids will learn what the “real heroes” do in our community through daily visitors to our school; Field trip to a fire station.

Kids in the Kitchen (July 21 – July 25)

A  dash of fun and a pinch of knowledge taste great together!  Creating centerpieces, table manners, creative napkin folding, and cooking the recipes for the Parkside Cookbook; Field trip to a “real” restaurant kitchen.

Party in the USA (July 28 – Aug. 1)

Kids will be visiting 5 states in 5 days…New York during fashion week and all the way to Hawaii where we will dance the hula; Field trip to In & Out Burger.

Nature (Aug. 4- Aug. 8)

Time will be spent investigating nature up close behind binoculars, running behind a butterfly net and picnicing under our Bidwell Park trees; Field trip to the Chico Nature Center.

Pets (Aug. 11- Aug. 15)

Kids love their pets! They will learn about all kinds of pets and proper pet care.  We will also be visited by some furry friends; Field trip to 2 X 2 Petting Ranch.
