Yoga
Children derive enormous benefits from yoga: Encourages creativity & imaginative thinking; Develops balance, focus, & strength; Teaches body awareness & healthy lifestyle choices; Offers a non-competitive environment to exercise & grow.
Creative Movement
The purpose of creative movement with preschool students is to give them the opportunity to explore what their bodies can do, learn control of their bodies, and become more familiar with spatial awareness. Through teacher guided activities; the students will gain more experience with following instructions, listening for cues, and respecting the space around them. Props are used such as: bean bags, bouncy balls, hoops, cones, sticks, parachute, etc.
Cooking
The Cooking classes are intended to help children learn some basic concepts of good nutrition and to help children enjoy preparing food. It is encouraging to see children grow in self-confidence as they learn to do this grown-up thing…cooking!
Nutrition
These lessons focus on teaching little learners about good nutrition and proper food choices, trying new foods, and that they need to eat a variety of food every day.Spanish
Spanish
The Parkside kids will be exposed to music, colors, numbers, alphabet, basic human body parts, common phrases & greetings, and stories. Learning a second language is amazingly stimulating for the brain and may help a child’s development in many social and academic areas.
Bidwell School of Music
Lessons provided on site for a small fee (maybe bold). A nontraditional style of teaching music that your child will love. It will change the way your kids will learn, create, and play music. Tomilee Deatherage has over 20 years teaching music. Her philosophy of music is for all ages has lead to being a licensed Kidermusik instructor as well as her very own curriculum for preschoolers “Music, Keys and Me.” We are thrilled to have such a talented instructor with the convenience of coming to our facility! www.bidwellschoolofmusic.com
Dramatic Play
Imagine the thrill of being “turned loose” in a room all set up for a Hawaiian Luau with grass skirts and leis, hula music, instruments (ukulele, rhythm sticks, and drums)! Themes change weekly from Grocery Store to Fire Station, to Birthday Party, etc. Dramatic play allows the students to use their imagination, improve their social skills, and have fun!
Park Walks & Exploration
We take full advantage of having Bidwell Park at our doorstep. Our program includes short nature walks, animal habitat exploration, visits to the Nature Center, art activities. We also encourage respect for Bidwell Park, its animals, and its visitors.
Animal of the Month
Two by Two Ranch & Petting Zoo comes monthly with a featured animal to educate and delight our children. From the first squeals of delight to the final pats and waves “goodbye” the kids are intrigued and captivated by their special visitors.
American Sign Language
ASL reinforces the learning of educational concepts such as ABC’s, animals, numbers, colors, months, and other specific themes. The children will learn to sign their names, learn the signs for objects around them, and ask simple questions, and incorporate signing and songs.
Zoo Phonics
Zoo-phonics® is a method developed to make children strong readers and spellers using a “phono” (hearing), “oral” (speaking), “visual” (seeing), “kinesthetic” (moving), and tactile (touching)—whole brain approach. Students actually learn the sounds of the alphabet and advanced phonemic concepts through an easily understood, concrete method of presentation.
Zoo-phonics® uses animals drawn in the shapes of the letters for ease in memory. A related body movement is given for each letter. This concrete approach cements the sounds to the shapes of the letters.
