Morning Challenge: Leap into Literature, Park Exploration, Gardening, Science, and Math. The goal of our morning challenge is to promote social, emotional, physical and intellectual skills.
Field Trips:
Daily field trips to either the local park, public swimming pool,
community garden, movie theater, and a new field trip each Thursday that
coordi- nates with the weekly theme. 
Electives: Our daily elective time is taught by outside teachers that specialize in that elective. Electives of- fered are PE, Spanish, Cooking, Yoga and Fine Arts.
Themed Activity: Is an activity that coordinates with our weekly theme. This activity can be anything from the sock hop in 50's week to panning for gold in Wild, Wild West Week.

Weekly Themes
Wild, Wild West
(May 30 - June 3) - Kids will gain a pioneer spirit through creating
salt dough maps, square dancing, panning for gold; Field trip to Gold
Nugget Museum. 
Mad Science (June 6-June 10) - Science is a blast! Lots of hands on experiments and projects including building volcanoes, seeing colors in 3-D, egg drops; Field trip to the Chico Science Museum.
Flashback to the 50's (June 13-June 17) - Who knew poodle skirts could be so much fun! We will "live and breath" the 50's by emerging in the music, dances, slang, and clothes of that era. The week's climax is a "Sock Hop"; Field trip to Cal Skate.
Everyday Heroes (June 20-June 24) - These heroes are even better then caped crusaders! It takes a lot more to being a hero than wearing a cape. The kids will learn what the "real heroes" do in our community and write thank you cards to them; Field trip to a local fire station.
Stars and Stripes (June 27-July 1) - A week of patriotic fun with explosions of red, white, and blue! Inspiring games and stories, firework art; Field Trip to Durham Park for a "bang up" BBQ!
Kids in the Kitchen (July 5-July 8) - A dash of fun and a pinch of knowledge taste great together! Creating centerpieces, table manners, creative napkin folding, and cooking the recipes for the Parkside Cookbook; Field trip to a "real" restaurant kitchen.
Alice in Wonderland (July 11-July 15) - A week down in the rabbit hole. The kids will be busy with activities such as lawn croquet and teacup races; Field trip will be an actual Mad Hatter Tea Party.
Party in the USA
(July 18-July 22) - Kids will be visiting 5 states in 5 days...New York
during fashion week and all the way to Hawaii where we will learn the
hula; Field trip to Smokin' Mo's Barbeque for some Texas home cooking.
Art Expo (July 25-July 29) - The kids will be ex-pressing themselves through self-portraits, sand art, watercolors, collages, sculptures, mosaics; Field trip to Glazed Creations.
Under the Big Top (Aug. 1-Aug. 5) - Let the circus begin...Juggling lessons, clown jokes, tight rope walking, and the kid's own mini circus; Field trip will be to a local circus.
